Google is very good at answering home work questions. I stopped doing that about forty years ago.

In a DOS command or batch file command string, a "switch" modifies what that command actually does. It's almost always applied by typing a forward slash followed by one or more letters.

Example: scandisk c: /autofix

/autofix is a switch. It tells scandisk to fix errors automatically.

Without a switch you wouldn't be able to turn your computer on. It's indispensible.

He could be talking about a network switch? (Like a hub only better.)
A light switch?

As you can see, you question is a little bit vague.

I assume you mean "function", just try pronouncing it the way you spelled it.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
