Specs: Windows 7, Dell Optiplex 745/ 4GB

I recently bought a used computer off of amazon and it works perfectly. However, the graphics card does not support a few games out there and it has a hard time working on some other lower grade 3D games out there.

I have a Dell Optiplex 745

I would be willing to upgrade my ram later on to see if that plays a difference but I'm wondering if its the graphics card or the ram that's causing the lag with the game. I'm looking for a decent priced card. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at the link below shows that Dell Optiplex 745 is not enough information. You need to go to the Dell site and provide the service tag number to find the exact specs for your particular build.

The second link below will get you started at the Dell site to get your specs.

Depending on which style case/form factor you actually have your graphic card choices may be limited. Also, the power supply may be a limiting factor in what you can use.

I hope you got it cheap because it's already an outdated system. Notice the "Expansion Bus Information" in the 1st link posted by OtheHill. The board has a PCI-express X16 slot for graphics but it's version 1.0a. That means you may have compatibilty issues. PCIe 2.0 cards should work, PCIe 2.1 cards probably will not work. Also, only the minitower with it's 305W power supply would be capable of handling a gaming video card, but it would have to be a low end one that doesn't require the 6-pin PCIe plug-in. A higher end card will require a better power supply. Choose your card carefully.
