it's trying to describe the problem to you. look up the documentation for your computer, and find out what that light error code means.

'it's trying to describe the problem to you.'
I guess I learn something new every day...hmmm...my slim optiplex show those numbers on startup and I'm sure they aren't sending me a morse code of some type.

can you tap f8 on bootup and get into safe mode?

Actually they are. Look up diagnostic lights for your machine and you'll see what I mean.

Monique, the numbered lights are diagnostic lights. They display codes that correspond to the machine's documentation to help with troubleshooting. If your machine is a dell, the 1 light probably means that something is up with your memory and the 3 and 4 lights could indicate a secondary memory failure.

right I found those that's why I said I swapped out the memory cause that's what it indicated, but that memory worked on another machine and the new one I put in still gave me that same issue

make up a memtest cd and check the ram, if they are faulty when you run your PC it will let you know.
