WD 1TB external HDD Recognized But Won't Work

December 6, 2010 at 04:41:28
Specs: Windows 7
My Western Digital terabyte eternal hardrive worked perfectly fine on my HD computer, I then plugged it into my roomate's HD computer and let him watch a movie. The next day I went to plug it back into my computer and it recognized it, but it said it I needed to reformat the disk in drive G: before I could use it. Is there anyway to save my data?

Improper removal of an external drive can cause corruption. You should always use the safely remove icon in the tray to assure you won't corrupt the drive.

Download a utility called testdisk to attempt repair of the partition on your external drive. Be sure to read all the instructions before using. Get testdisk at the link below.

Post everything you see for the drive listing in Disk Management.

In ur case, there is someting wrong with the MBR of your disk,a third party tool is necessary if you don't want to reformat the disk to lose the data. You can try Partition Table Doctor to get ur target:

In addition,it's easy to use and you can have step-by-step instructions.
