I recently bought a MSI laptop that has a NVIDIA Geforce GTX770M with 16GB RAM and i7. For some reason, when I hook it up with my Asus monitor, it gives me a static line when I'm playing games. I'm connecting it with an Amazon HDMI to DVI cable. It doesn't give any lines when I'm using the laptop monitor, only the Asus. Any help or tips about this would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty new to stuff like this so that's why I came here. Thanks. EDIT: I should mention that a couple of weeks back, I spit coffee on the front part of the monitor but other than leaving streak marks on the monitor, it works just fine.
Also, the lines don't appear when I'm doing work or watching videos, only when I play games.

It doesn't sound like interference since it's only a problem with games but you might want to move the cable around and see if that makes a difference. Do you or does the game software make any changes to the video settings--resolution, number of colors or refresh rate--when starting a game?
I think the settings on your desktop monitor aren't correct.
List both your laptop and monitor model number. You know the real meaning of peace only if you have been through the war.
Go into the settings of the game and see if it has the option for changing the video resolution. If it does have the option, try setting it for 1920x1080.
@DAVEINCAPS: I moved the cables and it doesn't change anything. I have the NVIDIA GeForce Experience that optimizes the resolution, settings and other items to the most the video card it can handle. Whenever I play a game, I go to the program and hit "optimize game" and it will change the settings for me.
