The clips hold the heatsinks tight to the memory chips. Just leave everything as-is & install the RAM.

Not sure what you mean about metal casing. What you fit is a small circuit board with edge connectors.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

All the ones I've dealt with just have a board with microchips on it.

I assume the black part is metal. It might be a heat spreader that should be left on but better get a second opinion - someone might know that particular RAM.

What I will do is ask for this post to be moved from Win 7 to the General Hardware forum where your chances could be better. You should still be able to access it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thank you so much - I appreciate your efforts - as it turns out - Dell sent me the wrong ram stick after supplying them the Service tag # - when I looked at the link I sent you the PC I ordered it for is not listed - and Dell tells me they don't have a part # to order a replacement - ??
Thank again for your help !!

If you are still around, just wondered why you are changing the RAM sticks, to get more perhaps? If so have you checked whether your computer is being restricted by its RAM or its CPU?
