Virtual Box Using More Ram For Guest OS . . .

Specs: Windows XP, 2.80 GHz / 1024
Hello I am Having A Problem . Whenever i'm about to start a virtual machine i see how much ram is in use and i'm usally using 240 MBS . So i go to start up my virtual machine that has 256 ram for it . And by the time it loads up i am at 860 mbs ram used ! ! I gave it 1 processor ( dual - core ) 256 mb ram and 128 graphic memory. AND installed Virtual Box Additions. I should at least have 512 mb free . . .
I have 1 gb of memory

CPU : Intel Dual-Core 3.40GHZ
Memory: 2 GB DDRM
Video Card: Nvida 9500 GT
Sound : SoundMAX Onboard
OS: Vista

Your own numbers do not add up.

At first you say you have 256MB of RAM then you say you have 1GB of RAM. Then in your system specs you have 2GB of RAM listed.

Which is it?

Do you use on board Graphics?

If you have more then you are better off it seems.

Use performance monitor maybe for more exact details on memory use. If not then use systernals tools for one of the best process details.

A VM will have overhead so you have to add in the original plus the overhead. Then the video does not add to that. It comes out of main I believe.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?
