Video driver wont install

Specs: XP Pro SP3
Hello, here is another real challenge:
Simply put happened that suddenly it crashed, the screen went black and then showed that blue screen of death for half a second, couldn’t read what is said exactly; then it kept restarting and again not successful;
I could start in safe mode; then uninstalled the video driver; now it starts normally, except that it shows since the beginning blue dotted string lines vertically on the screen! Really weird; after the welcome login page things go normal; except it doesn’t have video driver; when i tried to install it, latest, it goes fine up to half of it then crashes again...screen goes black then show the blue screen for half a sec then restarts; i kept trying and it did it all over and over again (period).
Now the good news is that i hooked it with a monitor, and the dotted blue vertical lines are still there, so my LCD screen is ok; also i tested the hard drive elsewhere, not sure, but believe it is also ok;
Am I right to say it could be a bad video card? Though it’s onboard! How could I test it; and yes, i’ve done the Dell full diagnosis test ,ok. Else seems to be all fine to me.
I’m actually a PC technician, but unfortunately can’t figure this one out; already tried many things. Crucially need it working again.
Would have any thoughts or ideas on this one please? Questions? Many thanks

System:
XP Pro SP3, Intel Duo core 2.16Ghz, 3Gb, HDD 250Gb; all up to date
Dell XPS M1710 about 4 year old. New HDD a year ago. Everything perfect till now.
nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX 512Mb

"it shows since the beginning blue dotted string lines vertically on the screen!"

That's not good. Sounds like a failing video card. Did you get the drivers from Dell or nvidia?

Thank you for prompt response; and the link.
Yes; first tried to install the driver from the original Dell's cd, didn't work, then I tried the latest driver from Dell's website, R180918, same outcome; unfortunately.
So that's a sign of a bad video card?! And that crashes the system why? I should know.
Actually for some time now, I could see sometimes a small blue line on the screen...
Could the card be repleced here?
From some research it looks like it lasted long enough for the gf 7 series! I still hope I dont need a new one.
Is there any way I could test it?
Actaully the pc wont boot anymore! I tried to repair it, with XP cd, and it fails when "installing devices" crashes again in the same way, reboots; loop.
