Adobe Premiere elements 8 - for windows...

Specs: Windows 7
Here's a brain-twister. I recently acquired an HP dv6t, with the i7-720QM, 4MB ram, 7200 SATA 500GB drive. I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 rendering a 1 min clip of AVCHD video from my camcorder takes in the order of 12-15 min. Doing the exact same job on my Dell Core2 Duo (2Ghz) only takes about 3 mins. How can this be explained?

Try this: Start up msconfig and select 'Selective Startup' and deselect 'Load Startup Items'. Reboot and try rendering your clip again. If it runs much faster, you have something in the Startup group that is slowing things down.

Don't go online without restoring your firewall and anti-virus.

It might also be Malware that doesn't show up in the Startup tab..

The three most important things in computing:
1. Backups, 2. Backups and 3. Backups.

Hi, Thanks so much for replying. I tried what you suggested and unfortunately, no improvement at all. According to the task manager, the idle process is at about 75-80%, Adobe ~13-18% I tried upping the priority of the Adobe process but no improvement in overall rendering speed, although the idle process percentage went down a bit. This is very perplexing to me as I spent considerable dollars on this machine in hopes that I would achieve reasonable video performance. I can't understand why my core 2 duo is performing better. I'll try a virus scan, but am protected by Norton Internet Security and have seen no intrusions nor infections. Thanks again. Any more suggestions would be welcome.

Similar issues. I have a Thinkpad W510 with an i7-720QM processor and Photoshop runs so slowly! My Core 2 Duo 2.5ghz computer from 2 years ago is way faster.
