Specs: Windows XP sp3
running windows xp sp3 on a packard bell desk top am getting white screen on boot up can not get into windows

i have tried pressing f8 when booting up but all i get is the screen going black then back to white. prior to this problem i was getting the message NTLDR is missing this i had rectified a few days before the white screen problem by the way i am not using a lap top i am using a desk top with an lcd monitor.

If you can, download this and create a bootable cd:

boot from the cd and see if you can get to the desktop.

If you have restore disks, you can try to boot off of those. Go into the bios. Watch the screen at post and it will tell you what key to hit, usually Delete. Set the boot order to boot from the cd drive. Save the changes and exit. Then you can boot from the disks. While you're in the bios, check to see if your hard drive is listed. If it's not and you can't boot off the disks, your hard drive is toast.
