Using a restore disk

Specs: Windows XP Media Center, 512
Has anyone ever used a Factory "Restore" disk, to reinstall software (OS & Software Programs) on a new hard drive? I never have, just wondering if it's possible.....
Thanks

No. Restore/Reinstallation CDs are for restoring the entire OS to Factory defaults. They basically contain an image, so therefore, do not contain installation files necessary to reinstall select applications.

You may not be able to use restore disks on replacement HD for two reasons:

1. The new HDD is not tattooed with hidden partition known as EISA configuration.

2. The new HDD does not have the compressed restore files stored on recovery disk usually Drive D.
