Hello users,
I am trying to FORMAT a 8gb thumb drive. There are some files on there that wont erase. There is a possibility that the files are corrupted because the files on the thumb drive are only readable. So i navigated to the computer management window (Right click on my computer> Manage> Disk Management> I clicked on the drive i wanted to delete, right clicked on the drive(M). It went through the entire format process but when it got to 100% a window popped up and it said "The format did not complete successfully" I also performed an Error-Check on the disk and this window came up "Windows was unable to complete the disk check"..need help.

What brand is it? Sounds like you have a faulty one, sometimes decent manufacturers have a disk utility available for their devices which may help - check their website.

Wonder if a virus is causing this. I'd try a linux live cd to try to re-partition it.

This assumes the drive doesn't have some special switch or key to unlock it.

You may need to connect the drive to a different USB port, or you may need to use a program to fix data damage on the drive.
