USB problem, works in virtual xp machine, but not main win7

September 27, 2012 at 01:56:45
Specs: Windows 7 64bit, I7 / 8GB
I have a windows 7 64bit pc, that have a strange problem with its usb. It won't recognize my logitech headset, and a couple of other devices. This machine also have a virtual windows xp 32bit machine running on it, and the devices are recognized here.
How can i fix the usb problem? Do i need to remove the usb-controllers one by one? And if it works in the virtual machine, is the problem not elsewhere? Virtual machine is from vmware.
The motherboard also have a usb 3 controller, that has the same problem. So can both usb driver set's, for the usb 2 and usb 3 controllers both have the same bug?

I have a windows 7 64bit pc

This might cause your issue.

Did those devices use to work before on this same OS? Check Device Manager for yellow exclamation signs next to the devices that have problems and post back the results.

Thanks for the reply probfixer.
No these devices never worked with this machine. And yes there are yellow exclamation marks. But no, it will not update the driver from ms update. Nor are there any drivers on logitechs homepage. The other non recognized devices are also plug and play.

You most likely have drivers problem. Please list the devices which have exclamation signs and their error codes (you can check each device for it's error code in the Properties Window)

"Logitech Wireless Headset" and 6 "Bluetooth Periphereal Device" are the only one's with exlamation marks. On the logitech forum, and faq, they tell you to update the driver, and the device manager should find it through clicking on update by right click the device in qustion. So non of these devices with exlamation marks will update. It just says no drivers found.
Error code 28

Is it possible that the usb devices are still attached to the still working xp virtual machine?

Download and install the Windows 7 64bit drivers for these devices directly form the device manufacturer's websites. If there are no Windows 7 64bit drivers, sometimes Vista 64bit drivers may work so they are worth a try. XP and all 32bit will not work. After installing the new driver, look into device manager, if there is still an explanation mark, right click on the device and delete it from there. Then restart the machine and Windows should detect the devices and install the new driver you just downloaded and tried to install.
If there are no drivers available after XP, you probably need to replace the devices with more modern ones that will work with your system.
Your XP virtual machine may have the drivers installed or be capable of running it as plug and play, but without the available drivers, Windows 7 probably cannot.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

mortneff I looked into it, and disabled the services to vmware, but still the same problem.

Fingers its a logitech H600 so its new. And still no drivers needed(plug and forget), and no drivers on logitech download.

Well we got a heaset to run with the bluetooth device. Got a H800. We given up on the logitech dongels, neither logitech clear chat, G930, H600 or the H800 dongle works on this machine. The H800 can use bluetooth so the dongle was not needed, but we just tried it any way.

Updating the bluetooth drivers removed all the exlamation marks for the bluetooth device. But still logitech dongels not recognized.
