My Dell Dimension E310 used to recognize anything I plugged into any of the 6 USB ports available. 4 are on the back: printer, mouse, monitor, radio ethernet adapter and 2 on front: external drive and one open. At one time I connect USB hubs to the open port and it recognized them. Recently, I have connected usb microphones by several makers and the pc does not recognize any of them. I have also bought a new squid type usb hub that has 7 female connectors and the pc does not recognize it either. Actually, it recognizes everything or identifies it when I plug in but is asking for driver uploads. Can someone help me get the pc to accept the usb hub device?
Just get a PCI usb card and see if that works:
http://www.google.com/products/cata...While you are waiting for one you can try downloading the latest chipset drivers for that PC from Dell and seeing if that gets the onboard USB ports working. But I know the PCI card will work fine.

thanks for suggestion. i will visit dell site and look for chipset download or contact them about it.
I would suggest using the PCI card too, can always use more USB ports in my books! Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
I have a pci card but do not know what you mean about using it to resolve usb port issues? Can you explain more? Thank you.
Just open the case, install the card in a PCI slot and the PC will recognize it. Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
