USB keyboard not working - cat on laptop

June 18, 2011 at 20:32:55
Specs: Windows Vista
My cat walked across my laptop keyboard (I've got a Toshiba Satellite) and then my USB keyboard stopped working with the laptop, though when I checked the control panel, the computer still registered it as plugged in and working.

Any thoughts about what keys I need to push to turn the USB keyboard back on? I've tried a bundle of combinations so far, with no luck.

Replace keyboard.

This has happened before and I saw where the cat had stepped on the laptop keyboard, and randomly pushed keys in that area and managed to get the input from the USB keyboard accepted again.

I'm suspecting that if I get another keyboard, the input from it still won't register, if the cat managed to hit a keystroke combo that turns off external keyboard input. I don't know if there's info I'm not aware of regarding this, though?

See what owners manual suggests.

That old British comedy "Are you being served" might suggest another thing to try. The older lady had a cat and they used to use a different term for it. They'd say keep your (word) off the keyboard. I still think that stuff is funny and it is like 30 years old.

I crack me up.

I just don't know of any key combo that can turn off a usb keyboard. I haven't seen it happen. One could use keyboard to disable it in system but that would be one heck of a cat to do that.

You could borrow a friends keyboard to try maybe.
