usb format

Specs: Windows 7
i forgot my usb in the computer while installing as i plug in the usb windows give a msg saying " u need to format the disk in drive L: before u can use it." now the computer can neither open nor format the usb. following message appears while formatting the usb "windoes was unable to complete the formate".
i have got:
windoes 7 (64-bit)
kingston Data Traveller (DT101Y/2Gb). yellow transparen

The flash drive (or external drive, or memory card reader) must be plugged into a port it will actually work in.

How to tell if the flash drive (or external drive, or memory card reader) is properly recognized as a hardware device, even if you can't access it's data.
Programs you can try to recover your data, if that's okay.
