Mickliq, your response is not helpful. If I could find it in the instructions I certainly wouldn't have posted it here. The printer had been working wellfor more than a year. Suddenly I get the response when I turn on the printer in order to print.

Your question was weak so I gave you the best answer based on your lack of info. Generally the drivers have to be installed BEFORE the printer is connected, that would be explained in the manual. And if you don't have a copy, go to the Canon site & download it. That's where you should be looking for a solution anyway.

Try unplugging and then reconnecting the USB cable. That may help find the printer. The USB port may not be working at this time.

This really is unnecessary. By your reasoning, this forum will be unnecessary then since every hardware (and software) will have a manufacturer and people should go to the manufacturers' websites when they have problems!! Makes me wonder what you are doing here then.
If my earlier response meant anything at all to you - you will notice that this is not a new connection I'm making. The printer has been connected and been working perfectly for abt 2 yrs. Suddenly this problem comes up.
For your info, I've been to the Canon site and this is not listed in the support FAQs. It's not in the manual either. Just don't assume this is the first place everybody comes when they need help (I certainly don't). Also if you don't have any help to give it's best you dont respond!

OtheHill,
Thanks for your response. Tried that but it didn't resolve the problem. I am presently trrying to re-install the drivers to see if that will help.
cheers

Verify that USB port is working before trying anything else.

Thanks OtheHill. I have re-installed the drivers and somehow that seems to have resolved the problem. The printer is working now.
Cheers
