Solved UPS freuqent and unexpected beeps & Shutdown

October 25, 2012 at 22:23:11
Specs: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit, AMD Athlon II X4 630 Processor 2.80 GHz / 4 GB
Hi,

I have bought Powercom UPS, model : IND-600A in year 2005.
From last 2-3 days it is not working properly, when i switch on the plug socket, room's fan and lights gets fluctuating. Also when i switch on the ups by pressing the button provided on it, it starts producing sound(beep). This happens sometimes but not always. Sometimes when i turn on my pc after 3-5 min., the ups starts beep and shutdowns [sometimes even without any sound(beep)]. As shutdown goes unexpectedly Windows ask for normal or safe mode boot which may lead to vulnerable working of Windows 7 and can loose my data which is bothering me much more.

I have given the ups battery power supply to my monitor and CPU only.

PC Config.
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate X86 SP1 Build 7601
Processor : AMD Athlon II X4 630, 2800 Mhz
RAM : 4GB
MotherBoard : Asus M4A78LT-M LE
Hard Disk : WD Black Edition 640 GB
Power Supply : Odessey 450W
Monitor : LG Flatron E2040T

Help Me with this frustrating conditions.

Thank You

Could just need a new battery or could be a fault with the UPS. You need to get it tested by a dealer.

Most likely the battery, as ijack indicated. Seven years is longer than they usually last.

I have replaced batteries in UPS's but they typically just beep at you (day and night) but as long as AC power is on, they let the computer work normally.
True I normally use APC UPS' and your brand is different so it is still possible that it is only the battery. I did however have one UPS go bad and shut down more than once suddenly (I had to reimage the hard drive from back up image since a Windows critical system file(s) were corrupted and a repair did not help) but since it was 2 years into a 3 year warranty, APC replaced it without question with the newer model.
Try the battery if you like, but see if you can return it for credit towards a new UPS if it does not help the problem (some local stores may allow you to do this within a day or so).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I wouldn't suggest changing the battery blindly - they can be quite expensive (although 7 years is a good life). Hence my advice to take it to someone who has the necessary equipment to test it.

Thank You all for replying, as ijack suggested i will go for testing.

If they tell me to change the battery then which battery i should buy, though i have searched a lot on the same but couldn't find a battery manufactured or recommended by POWERCOM.

So pl. let me know about it and tell me the suggested or approx. price of new battery if possible .

Also tell me which UPS will be the best to purchase as my system configuration.

Additional details will be given if needed.

All UPS' use standard off the shelf batteries so it is no mystery once you find out the correct battery it uses. After 7 years you are under no warranty to worry about recommended or certified batteries and all mfg's recommend purchasing from them at inflated prices.
Google the name and model of the UPS with the word 'Battery' for the information or just let the place testing it sell you a battery.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

It is usually almost as cheap to buy another unit, so you may wish to weigh that out. Depends on the manufacturer and battery cost, etc.

I prefer APC but others have gained a decent reputation.
