I wouldn't recomend running xp, i just found out the max memory the pc can handle and it's 384mb(512mb to rum xp smoothy) another issue is with drivers, u won't be able to find the right driver when upgrade to win xp. U better stick with win 98 or upgrade to win 98 se.

Win XP runs fine on 384MB.

"u won't be able to find the right driver when upgrade to win xp"

XP should have no problem getting the chipset/audio/video drivers right for an old 500. It recognized everything in my P2-333 machine.

If the OP's machine has at least 256MB of RAM, upgrading to XP would be a much better choice than sticking with 98.
