updating BIOS wen no display

Specs: Windows XP
two days back i saw my desktop went bad and gave no display. itried everything from changing the RAM to changing powersupply,etcbut nothin worked.yesterday i gave it to a hardware engineer. he fixed it today and he told that the fault was of a corrupt bios. i just want to know how he updated the bios without having any display.

He may of put in a temp graphics card.....or used a dos boot disk with a batch file to create and run the following debug to reset the bios to default.

He wouldn't need to see any thing but just type in what starts the batch file when he felt the computer
was booted up.

Then again, just removing the battery will reset the bios.....
