unlocking mousepad on compaq laptop cq56

Specs: Windows 7
Sometimes the mousepad on my Compaq Presario CQ56 locks. A red light in the top left of the mouse pad comes on and I don't know how to unlock it. I don't even know how I manage to get it to lock. It is very frustrating as I have to pull the battery out and restart the laptop to get it to work again. How do I unlock the mousepad????

Right above the mouse pad theres a little button with a light above it. Just push that.

Have you tried that yet?

I'm butting in here because I have the same problem. The Presario CQ56 does NOT have a button (or light) above the mouse pad. The orange light is in the mouse pad itself, about 3/8" from the edge of the pad.
I don't know why mine turned on- I thought the grey spot there was a fleck of dirt and was rubbing it, then it lit up! It wouldn't turn off until my battery ran out. Now I can't turn the light back on no matter how much I rub it.
Any idea how this works on this particular model?

READ the Owner's or User's manual for your model !!

Most laptops have a key combo that toggles the touchpad off / on, probably because some people don't like using the built in touchpad

double tap the orange light to unlock! double tap the 'grey' light to lock.
