My hard drive in my lenovo crashed this week or at least let's say my system was unable to detect it. I took the drive out and brought it home to see if I could get some stuff off it. It is bitlocker prtoected so when I plugged it into my home laptop using a NexStar 3.5 adapter, the box came up for me to enter my unlock key, which I did and I was able to see and show the contents of my drive.

I then went to my local drive to make a directory to copy the stuff too, and just as I completed that, the usb connected drive disappeared from windows explorer. Now it keeps up with Unlock drive F: This drive is bitlocker-protected, but it never gives me the window to enter my code.

Try safely removing the drive and restarting the computer. After plugging it in again, it might behave a little better. Worth a try while waiting for other answers.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Try going into device manager and delete the drive from there. Then reboot and see if it gives you the option.

I am guessing the drive is toast. I tried what you suggested. When I get the message 'This drive is Bitlocker-protected' and double click on the message, sometime nothing happens, other times I get the box to enter the key, and other times I get a message saying bitlocker can't access the drive because of a problem with the PC or drive itself.

The computer just keep displaying the protected message every 10 seconds or so.

I forgot to add when I get the protected message the drive momentarily appears in windows explorer and then disappears. When I do get the box and enter the code the drive never stays connected.
