Are the majority of internal laptop optical drives compatible with most laptop computers? I would like to know in case I can buy a cheaper DVD/CD-RW drive than the one originally included with the computer.
I have had to remove/re-use screw-on adaptors and side brackets in order to fit some "Off-the-shelf" replacement slimline optic drives. Occasionally the front plate does not fit in the case slot. You haven't given details of the brand/model you have.
Actually if you take the drive out you will find a part number on there. If you buy an identiacal drive, regardless of what Laptop it came out of, you can swap over the front fascia plate and any brackets.
