Specs: Windows XP or windows 7, intel i7 1156 socket corssair dominator 4 gb
New build. First unable to install windows xp fully. Computer will freeze at random points of installation. Tried to install windows 7 with same problem. PSU, motherboard, CPU, case, and harddrive all new. Having difficulty diagnosing what the problem is. My bios page shows that my memory sata and ide drives operational. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be bad RAM. Try running Memtest86 and see what the results are.

RAM is new as well. I have no operational OS. The weird part is how random the freeze ups occur. With windows 7 I can get to the install screen and the comp will freeze shortly thereafter. I was almost able to fully install windows XP before freeze up occurred. Purchased the CPU, RAM, motherboard, PSU, and case from newegg. I need to find out which of these components is the naughty one.

It doesn't matter if the RAM is new test it anyway.
Memtest 86 Doesn't run from an installed OS you download an image, burn it to CD and boot to it.
