Unable to change the boot order?

July 26, 2012 at 18:17:00
Specs: Windows XP, 1GB
When I go into the bios to change the boot order it says "Unable to change any of the items in this category while in user-mode. Please contact system Supervisor." What does this mean and how can I change the boot order?

Dell Inspiron Mini 10
Windows XP Phoenix BIOS

It might be that the BIOS asked for a password and you didn't provide one so it just let you in to view-olny mode for the BIOS. Did it ask you for a password when you entered the BIOS?

It could mean that you are trying to access the bios from within Windows using CMD commands or are trying to change the Registry entries. You need to Restart and enter Bios at Boot Post.

"Im the only account on the computer and it is admin"

I believe what you're referring to is the Windows accounts, what THX is referring to is the BIOS accounts. The error message you're getting seems pretty clear. You need to enter a BIOS password to enter the supervisor account, you will then be able to change any BIOS setting you want. You are currently entering the BIOS under the user account which allows very few changes. The supervisor password was put in place by someone to prevent BIOS tampering.
