The TV is evidently not capable of displaying the resolution and refresh rate you have set in Windows standard mode.

CRT TVs are not good candidates for computer monitors. You would not be able to read the normal sized text even if you could get it working in standard mode.

It's a flat screen with HDMI connection. I don't understand why it works fine in safe mode - any ideas?

Do you know what a CRT monitor is? That is what you stated you have. That is the old picture tube type.

Did you install the graphics drivers?

Yes - it's a Samsung 32" TV , flatscreen cathode ray tube, not LCD or Plasma. I haven't installed any additional drivers. I assumed that if the PC works with a 15" LCD monitor that it must already have the necessary drivers. What additional drivers would I need please and where would I get them from?

"It's a flat screen with HDMI connection". Are you sure about the HDMI connection? I would guess the TV might have component video, but not HDMI.

Are you connecting it to a laptop somehow?

Yes - definitely has one HDMI in input. No I haven't tried a laptop with the TV.

If I've got a monitor and the TV connnected to the PC then both work together. I've reinstalled Win 7 and downloaded all the ATI drivers. Even tried a DVI to HDMI cable - there must be something I'm doing wrong

Right click a blank space on your desktop and click on resolution while both displays are connected. Do you see two displays there?
