A while back, I installed a hard drive, moved all my documents to in, formatted the other and installed Ubuntu. The original hard drive was IDE and the one I moved my documents to was SATA. My boot order required the SATA hard drive not be before the IDE hard drive, despite there only being one OS. There was always an error message "SATA hard drive cannot be found" but once I booted there wasn't a problem accessing it or my documents on it. I know this isn't much in the way of an answer, but check your BIOS and try switching up your boot order.

If it isn't a sata/ide problem then the bios isn't detecting any drives connected to your IDE ports. It could be there are no drives connected, the drive is bad, the cable is bad, the drives aren't correctly jumpered or in older systems, the drive is too large for the bios to see.

Now that's what I call a sticky situation

What is the make and model of your computer ?

Do you have more than one internal hard drive ?

Did you get that message after changing whatever hard drive's connection(s) or changing which hard drive(s) is(are) installed?
