Might try to see if linux can read it. There are a lot of issues. One is the old system. It may not be able to support the chs of the drive, the size of the drive. It might be that that drive is not a true drive and needs a special adapter. Might be that xp can't support it.
I'd boot to a live linux cd and see if it can mount and read it, best on a newish system.
