Solved Trouble Installing AMD Phenom on eMachines t5062

May 25, 2015 at 14:25:03
Specs: Windows Vista, AMD64/4GB
I have an eMachine T5062 with an AMD64(socket AM2) processor. I also have an AMD Phenom (Socket AM2) processor I would like to install. I have attempted installation but I seem to have failed somehow.

Steps Taken

First Attempt: Installed processor, attempted boot. Failure.
Second Attempt: Installed processor, cleared CMOS, attempted boot; also failure.

In both cases after installing the AMD Phenom, upon pressing the power button the fans would spin for half a second and stop. The blue light on the power button did not come on. I tried holding down the power button for a few seconds and this caused the fans to continue spinning but the system would not power off unless I disconnect the power. I put the old AMD64 back in and the system works fine.

Am I missing a step? Do I need to update the BIOS? Is the Phenom dead?

A quick Google search would have told you that the Phenom isn't supported. Your board is based on the very old Geforce 6150/nforce4 chipset combo (approx 2005), so even when it was new, it was old.

It only supports "AMD Athlon 64 FX/ Athlon 64/ Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core/ Sempron processors".

The Phenom is an AM2+ CPU. I doubt that it will work in that motherboard.

The socket on the board I took it from says "AM2". Not seeing an AM2+ socket on the processor list I'm looking at. AMD Phenom is listed only as "AM2" I see AM3 and AM3+ but there does not appear to be an AM2+.

edit: NVM, found AM2+ product list.

Yeah, that's exactly what a google search revealed. Manufacturer site list the X2 as the best this board can get.
