transparent image appears on desktop

October 11, 2012 at 09:41:38
Specs: Windows 7
For some reason, lately a transparent image appears on my desktop when opening a word or excel document, much like a thumbnail image of the program. It shows on the desktop until I close the program. This just recently started, guessing about 10 days now. Windows 7 Pro, 32 bit OS. Any suggestions how to solve this and why it happens?
Thank you!!

If it's a trial version of the software, the image may be a reminder that your time is running out.

Is the document itself on the desktop? if so, it's a temp file that Word and Exell create while the document is open. Does the thumbnail name start with a ~ ?

The Excel document I have open is also on the desktop as a shortcut but when I open a new Word document the semi-transparent image also appears. Yes, these images start with ~$

I assume that you have not changed your system Folder Views?

ie. You are not showing "hidden files" or "protected system files".

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

As I said in my first post, It is a temp file that Word and Excel create while the document is open. It's perfectly normal.

If it happens when you start a new document, then you probably have your desktop set as the default folder to store documents in. You can change the default folder in the Word & Excel options.

This just recently started

Is it possible that in the past you didn't use the desktop for this activity.

That would account for it appearing to suddenly happen. If it was happening working within folders in List view it could easily go unnoticed.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
