Touchpad will move cursor but not double click

Specs: Windows XP
Touchpad will move cursor but not doubleclick. I have a Toshiba laptop and read another post from two years ago with a similar problem. I tried FN+F9 (learned something new!) and it turns the touchpad on and off, but doesn't restore the ability to 'double-click' with the touchpad only. I keep having to 'left click.' I searched for windows/ system/ icph... something but could find it. I've tried updating drivers but that hasn't worked either. Any ideas?

Go into Control Panel > Accessibility options. > Mouse > Settings

You can control the speed with which you need to doubleclick.

Not sure whether this will work for the laptop touchpad but worth a look.

Nope... not working. Even when I change the speed the mouse pad 'click' isn't recognized. Could be the thing is just broke!! TIme to email my fixit guy.

Hello, one day later... I realised that the touchpad is not the same as a mouse-- it's the synaptic pointing device, so I right-clicked on the bottom toolbar icon and found the 'switch' to turn the touchpad back on. Yay!
