Power off the laptop (force shut down if necessary). Unplug power cord and remove the battery. Press and release the power button 5 or 6 times. Reinstall the battery and try the laptop again.
If that does not set things to right again, try a USB mouse and keyboard and see if it will work with them. If you can get it to work with them, try downloading the drivers for your system from Gateway's site and install them. Especially look for chipset drivers and touchpad driver. If the externals work but the internals still do not work then you may have an issue with the wires or connectors from these components to the motherboard.
Were there any problems or fixes recently that may have caused or be related to this problem (If the case was opened then wires may have been pulled out of connectors, not reinserted properly, or pinched between plastic parts or under screws).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Do you mean that an external keyboard does not work either?

If not , try to get into bios , if you can get into bios , then you will probrably need to run recovery or reset/re-install windows

OK. if the external keyboard works but the internal one does not work then it is NOT in the BIOS or in the software, the problem is with the keyboard or its wiring. If you are not up to taking apart a laptop then you will need to take it in for servicing. Make sure that you tell them all that you found out and all that may have happened to the computer recently including: fixing the touchpad, when both stopped working, anything that happened to the machine including dropping it or spilling on it (if happened) and any other recent problems (fixed or not). These pieces of information will help find the problem faster and therefore cost you less on the repair.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
