Solved Toshiba Satellite Laptop won't turn on

March 4, 2013 at 09:47:27
Specs: Windows XP
I just got an old toshiba satellite (harman/kardon) from a friend, and for the past week it's been working great - and they've never had a problem with it (other than booting it up from hibernation seems to be a mystery). So, while it's an older computer it still works fine.

It was working great last night and I put it in stand-by when I went to bed but this morning I can't get it to turn on. When I press the power button all the proper lights come on, and the fan powers up but then quits after 5 or 6 seconds and that's the end of it. I've tried with and without both the cord and the battery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try F8. See if it goes to the menu. If it does, choose last known good configuration. If it works, disable stand by. That's the worst invention since call waiting.

Just hold the power button in...UNTIL it shuts down. Then reboot and you should be fine. Hibernation and standby are the nightmares of PC's and laptops....why not leave it plugged in....(physically remove the battery)...and then just use the screen saver, that should work just fine for you.

If it still does it, remove the power and battery too then hold the power on/off button in for 20 seconds.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
