Unfortunately, laptop manufacturer's do not publish information about CPU upgrades and compatibility.

What would be the motive for the change? You do understand that laptop CPUs rarely run at full frequency. The CPU on both Intel and AMD processors is throttled down by decreasing the voltage. This is done to extend battery life.

If you are looking at some reading that shows the CPU cycles are running at or near max. the reason is as I just explained.

It is possible to change the settings to run the CPU at 100% all the time. The problem is not just battery life but the laptop may overheat.

I can't imagine what you are doing with the laptop that would need more processing power. The weak link in most laptops is the integrated graphics. These are never as powerful as a desktop for the same reasons cited above.

it was just a general question. its quite responsive considering its age. i think a ram upgrade may be the way to go after your comments.

Specs show only 1GB of RAM installed. Upping to the 4GB max would definitely improve performance.

Hi Martin, do as OtheHill suggests.

The place to obtain memory inexpensively is ebay, but opt for the correct type rather than compatible, which should avoid any problems.

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
