Tired of fighting PC randomly shut down issue

Dell Inspiron 1720 notebook

Specs: Windows Vista
My computer just randomly shut down. I have tried a fan which I sit under the computer because I heard that it can be caused by overheating and the problem is still doing the same thing... I am furious with this and have been dealing with this for over a year (shame to say)

1. Check the hardware. 2 Check the Power saving settings. 3. Check the health of the OS.

1. Boot to your Dell Drivers & Utilities CD (if you have one) and run the Dell Diagnostics (usually a Blue & White CD in a paper sleeve).

If you don't have a CD, you can download the diagnostics from the Dell site and make a bootable CD or bootable floppies to run the tests.

2. Go into Control Panel and check your power saver settings.

3. Is the issue something else? Blue Screen Stop error? Power issue? If YES, be more specific.

Just another stupid saying...
