thumb drive problem, noob desperate for help

Hello. I am having all kinds of problems with my thumb drive. I have a Staples Relay that has locked my password out. Not finding a way around that, I elected to just wipe it clean and attempt a data recovery. The problem is that when I try to wipe it clean, it now says that it can't initialize the activity. So I remain locked out of it, and unable to access the data even enough to delete it! This has some pretty important stuff on it... from now on I'm going to back up my thumb drive regularly, but for now I'm desperate for help on how to get anything going on this thing! Please help!

There could be a little switch on the side that will not enable overwriting. See if you have that and if you do, turn it off.

Nope, there's no switch. I chalk it up to the thing going buggy :-(

When you say it has locked out your password, do you mean you have it password protected and it won't accept the password.

Yes, that is what I mean. It gives me the option of wiping the drive and thereby resetting the password and restoring access, but it malfunctions when I attempt to do that.

Have you tried to reformat it from My Computer or Disk Management. Maybe it has gone south:))

I guess THIS Staple Relay is made especially for Staples as a no-frill product and anything that carries Staples brand name usually do not last very long.

I haven't tried to reformat it. How would I go about doing that?

My thumb drive served me well for over 2 years, until I dropped it :(
