theoretical question regarding UPS Behaviour

April 6, 2011 at 23:04:57
Specs: Windows 7
I have doubt,

If the UPS Input Terminal/Plug is connected to the output plug/terminal of the same UPS(When UPS is Fully Charged), what would be the behaviour.
Please deligate answer for this briefly.

One of two things would happen, Either the whole thing would go up in smoke or nothing would happen.

It is not something any sane person would do unless they had a desire to destroy their equipment.

Try it and see what happens.

Are you asking what would happen if you plugged the UPS into itself?

It would probably cycle on and off. When you turn it on it would see no voltage on the input and trigger the circuitry to produce power. The input would then see there is power and shut off the the circuitry to to produce power. Then the input would see there is no power and turn on the ciruitry to produce power, etc.

This would continue for a while but due to inefficiencies in the electronics, it would eventually drain the battery and shut off.

Try it and see what happens.

That is usually the best solution. Suck it and see?

AS looping back as UPS is not something that is normally done, the results can be unpredictable.
