I'm trying to use a sata hdd in my pc but windows XP setup doesn't see it and neither does bios. I tried loading the sata drivers on a floppy in setup, which says they will be installed, but then it just says no hard drive is detected and to exit.

I get an error that says:

SATAII150 579 BIOS Version
(c) 2002-2005 Promise Technology, Inc. All rights reserved
No device is found!
BIOS is not installed.

I have an old soltek mobo with via chipset. BIOS is set to sata. When I set the BIOS to raid I get this error:
VIA Technologies, Inc.VIA VT0237 Serial ATA RAID BIOS Setting Utility V2.10

Scan Devices,Please wait . . .
Press < Tab > Key into User Window!

HardWare Initiate failed, Please Check Device!!!
The Bios does not be installed. Press <g> to continue!

Don't set sata mode to raid. The first thing is to make sure BIOS recognize the drive and then u can proceed to OS installation. Try to use different sata ports on the motherboard if that doesn't help try to swap sata data & power cable(make sure sata is enabled in BIOS), again if that doesn't help the drive is bad(u can prove the hdd is bad by connect into another working system with sata ports).

Thank you for the reply. I tried setting the bios to sata but it still doesn't detect the hdd. The drive is good I've tested it on another pc. And I've tried every sata port available (there's 4) and I've tried different cables :( any other advice?

grr this is driving me bonkers. It's a s--- old motherboard that doesn't support pci-e or even sata apparently (even though it worked for a year+ running sata hdd and then just suddenly stopped) and the manual in all its engrish glory is no use. so I guess it goes out the window. thanks anyway.
