temperature sensor for external USB HDD

Specs: Windows 7
There seem to be many small programs to report on your main HD, but I haven't yet run across any that even hint that they can be configured for an external drive. Does anyone know of a program out there?

To record temperatures you would need probes within the external HD, not just software.

For internal HD's programs usually reflect the readings already recorded in BIOS.

Please come back and let us know the outcome.

From what I read in several that bothered to go into detail of how they worked, they were reading off the S.M.A.R.T. settings or codes or whatever-they-are in the drive.

The problem is reading the drive status through the usb interface. Most of the firmware probably does not allow for it.

I have not found them overly useful if they do work. Just me, I'm sure for the right circumstance they serve a purpose.
