There's no such thing as a ram battery on a laptop, or on any computer as far as I know

Do you mean the Cmos battery - the one that allows the bios to retain custom bios settings and the current date and time ?

What is your problem ?
Even if the Cmos battery is too weak or dead, that does not affect whether your laptop will boot.
If your laptop will not boot or it does but it has no video, that's not caused by a Cmos batterry that's too weak or dead.

Laptop no video (or video problems), and battery, AC adapter, power jack T shooting.

Apparently your model is ancient - made in circa 1993, Intel 486DX2 CPU .
You probably can't run anything higher than Win 95 on it.

Old Toshiba
http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...

Information about laptops that old is sparse.

The Toshiba web site does not list downloads for Satellite or Satellite Pro T1950CT, or T1950, T1950CS
Searching with T1950CT elsewhere in Support on the Toshiba site finds no User manual either.

The info about how to remove the Cmos battery is probably in the Service manual for the laptop series, but good luck finding one of those for a model this old.

E.g. search for: Toshiba T1950CT "service manual"

There was these models: T1950, T1950CS, T1950CT - they probably all have the same service manual.

If the laptop has a bios set password you cannot get around...

Memory Upgrade for Toshiba T1950CT Laptop
The Toshiba T1950CT Laptop takes the 88pin JEIDA DRAM Cards (non-parity, 3.3v) Memory Type, and comes installed with 4 MB (non-removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Toshiba T1950CT Laptop to up to a maximum of 20 MB Memory, the system has 1 slot to install Memory, already with 4 MB (non-removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

If you don't already have a 16mb module installed, good luck finding one for a cheap price these days.

The computer itself is booting, otherwise you would not see that.

In almost all cases, you can still continue booting to load the operating system on the hard drive after that, if there's nothing wrong with the data on the hard drive, and you have the Boot Order or similar settings set correctly.
See Response 1:
http://www.computing.net/answers/ha...

In some cases you must enter the bios and set the date and time when you see that, save bios settings, the computer will restart, and you won't get that message Bad Cmos or or similar error again until after you have shut down Windows ./ the computer, then try booting the computer again.
(You'll still get the message about the battery.)

Your model is so old I haven't found a User manual or a Service manual for it anywhere so far .

I'm assuming you see a line while booting "Press xxx (a key) to enter Setup" or simiilar.
If you see that you may need to repeatedly press that key BEFORE you see that error message while booting and go into the bios Setup and change the date and time to current settings.

However, your model is so old, you MAY not see that line and you MAY need to use a specific bootable Setup floppy disk for your model to be in the floppy drive and boot from it in order to access the bios Setup.
If you don't have that floppy disk, there may still be a program or a download available on the web that makes it, or a download that makes a generic bios Setup floppy disk may work.

Do you have the Toshiba User's manual for your model ?

NOTE - It's probably a rechargeable battery. When you use the AC adapter for your laptop it's charged.
It may need to be charged by connecting your AC adapter to your laptop for a reasonable amount of time BEFORE you attempt to boot the laptop when the laptop has not been used for a long time.

If doing that gets rid of the battery error message, you will need to go into the bios Setup and set the current date and time, Save bios settings, to get rid of the Cmos error message while booting.

On the other hand if it's the original battery it's probably dead and can't be charged anymore.
.................

These models were all listed as being able to use the same video drivers for Win 3.1:
Toshiba T1910, T1950, T1950CS, T1950CT, T2400CS, T2400CT, T2450CT, T3600CT, T4700CS, T4700CT, T4800C

They may all be very similar models.

I have found absolutely no free Service or Users manuals for your model or any T1950 model anywhere, and on all sites I tried after I found the above info, no manual at all for any of the other above models either. .

....

This site has both the Service manual and the User's manual !

Go here -

http://www.manualuniverse.com/manag...

Select Toshiba, type in T1950

They're not free but they're reasonably priced.

If you don't have either manual but don't have much money to spare, you may still have enough info about your computer if you buy just the Service manual.

It appears you can only pay for them with a PayPal account.

If you don't have a PayPal account, you can set one up for free - you will need to provide PayPal with credit card info, or other info about how you can pay.

Once the payment has cleared, you are sent an email that tells you where on the web you can exclusively download the manual(s).

ebay search: cmos toshiba
http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_kw=c...

NOTE that if the cmos battery has a Toshiba part number , or a battery maker's part number, if you search using that you're more likely to find an exact match.

If you can't find an exact match, any battery that has the same voltage rating will work as long as it fits where you need to install it and the + and - wires are connected to the same pins correctly.

It's probably a rechargeable battery When you use the AC adapter for your laptop it's charged.
It probably needs to be charged by connecting your AC adapter to your laptop for a reasonable amount of time BEFORE you attempt to boot the laptop the first time.

-- or - BEFORE you attempt to boot the laptop after the laptop has not been used for a long time.

If doing that gets rid of the battery error message while booting, you will need to go into the bios Setup and set the current date and time, Save bios settings, to get rid of the Cmos error message while booting. .
