system restore-ps/2 keyboard nonfunctional!

October 17, 2009 at 17:46:44
Specs: Windows XP pro/sp1
Virus locked me out of my password account(took out keyboard driver. Device mgr. says so and tried to reinstall it,no go.) Bypassed password, took it out. Function restored @ tried to use system restore but it is turned off(message;not enough disc storage below 200megs,code32). So I need to know how to restore keyboard function so i can get into Bios, safe mode,etc...Tried good ps2 k.b.@usb k.b. also. Wrote this with "on screen keyboard". Any help would be appreciated,Tkanks,Amanda

A windows virus will NOT prevent the keyboard from being used to access the BIOS

Try booting up in safe mode. Sometimes that will fix weird problems.

Hi,I can`t get any of the keys to work,so booting up in safe mode is a no go, just as I stated in my origional post. This reply is being typed with the virtual keyboard in xp.

Are you using a true PS/2 keyboard or a USB keyboard with a PS/2 adapter? The USB keyboard w/adapter doesn't always work, so if that's what you have, try a true PS/2. And make sure you don't have it plugged into the mouse port.

You could try resetting the BIOS with the clear CMOS jumper, but that *may* make things worse.
