sv266a sound driver needed (real tec sound )

February 27, 2011 at 11:36:41
Specs: Windows 7
installed win 7 and lost sound (realtec sound on mother board) tried to update no luck. used all win7 functions. No luck. And I do not need to be told to go to one of these driver boast, driver king, places they show the driver is up to date and all tell me other problems which work and want to charge for a down load. ITS FREE driver if you buy. I just need to get some sound. This seems to be a problem all over. There are lots of post on other sites.

You have not told us wether this is a brand name system.

If not manufacturer/model of motherboard.

Did you run the Upgrade Advisor prior to installing W7, as SV266A is i believe an older Chipset.

The obvious place to look is the Realtek website. Only a moron pays for drivers or uses "driver finder" software.

Made by Syntax-Brillian ?

here is a link to get the manual:

(The title says Driver but it's the mboard manual.)

The sound chip was made by Via.

Realtek supplies drivers for many devices that were made by other brands.
You can use either Realtek drivers or Via drivers, for the proper audio chip model.

The audio chip may have the Via model printed on it, or the equivalent Realtek model printed on it.

If the sound chip has VT1612A printed on it

Via support

Clicking on Drivers goes to...

It appears it's free.

If the chip has the equivalent Realtek model printed on it, it starts with ALC.

On the Realtek web site it says in the FAQs....

We are a chip supplier, not a motherboard manufacturer. Please read the model number of the AC'97 audio CODEC on your motherboard. The model number starts with "ALC" and a number follows (e.g., ALC201). With the model number, please find out its corresponding drivers at

You can change the displayed langauge at top right of the resulting page..

The most frequent reasons the PROPER sound software DOES NOT install properly are.........

- you have one or more resident module(s) for anti-malware software running that are interfering with the proper installation of the software.

See response 3 regarding disabling resident modules of anti-malware software:

See response 14 in that if you have Panda Global Protection

- the most common reason - you DID NOT install the sound software properly !

See response 1 in this:

The link pointed to in that post has the directions for Vista or Windows 7

If you do not see Programs and Features in Control Panel in Windows 7, set the view setting in Control Panel to display as Small Icons or Large Icons (not Categories).
