Specific keyboard characters don't work

Specs: Windows XP, Dual Core 3.4ghz /2Gb
I just got a re-certified Dell Optiplex 745 running XP and have tried two different USB keyboards. Windows wants the validation code which I have but can't even input because certain numbers don't type. (There are other characters as well, but they are all specific) I have tried to type the numbers using both the number pad and the main keyboard numbers and the same numbers won't work on either keyboard. The numbers are 1, 5 and 0, the bad letters I didn't record. Any ideas?

When certain numbers or letters won't type for Product key entry, it usually means those characters are not valid for that particular version of Windows.

For example, if you are trying to perform a new installation of Windows that wasn't pre-installed at the Dell factory, the Product Key affixed to the back of the computer is not valid. That key is valid only for the pre-installed version.

So, the bottom line is that there's nothing wrong with your keyboard. You are just trying to enter an invalid key.
