Specs: Windows 7 64bit, AMD FX 4100 quad core/8GB RAM
Normal windows sounds (such as the music when you first log in) still work, but all of my music, no matter what program i use to play it, always sounds extremely distorted. Everything was working fine yesterday (i played some audiosurf without any issues) and now its all screwed up. For some reason my computer has detected both a nvidia and a realtek sound device and i have updated the drivers for both of them and it didn't fix the problem...is my sound card toast? Some sound effects in games are either distorted or missing completely as well.

UPDATE: wow the problem was with my headphone jack...my cruddy headphones cant get a good physical connection...nothing to do with a sound card or drivers

I can only guess that the Realtek is the onboard sound & the NVIDIA is the HDMI sound. Could your speakers be the problem? Have you checked the connections? Did you try headphones to see if the sound is distorted when using them too?
