Specs: Vista (originaly), Intel 2GB
I have a sony viao VGN-NR38e-s that I was given because the hard disk and power supply were faulty. So I had a power supply and I bought a 120gb hard disk and installed it. The laptop had Vista on it originaly but the serial sticker is all worn so I can't read it. I have a copy of XP Pro so I wanted to install it but when trying to install windows xp it says HD not found. It shows as 120gb hd in bios. I have formated it by booting laptop from a hirens 13 cd and it sees it from that.
Any ideas.

Looks like that's got a SATA drive in it. XP won't recognize a SATA drive. You need to get SATA drivers, probably from the drive manufacturer's site. Assuming you have a floppy drive, put the drivers on a floppy disk and when the XP initial installation says to press f6 to load external drivers, put the floppy disk in and press F6. If you don't have a floppy drive then something like this might work:

Ding dong the witch is dead. . . .
