This may be a dumb question but did you move your monitor cable to the new card?

A lot of unanswered questions.

"nvidea graphics"

What model number is it? Does your Power Supply meet the requirements?

"the computer recognizes it as a different graphics card"

What does it say exactly? Did you try booting into safemode to install the new drivers?

GIVE US MORE DETAILS TO GO ON.

Yes I disabled the onboard card, yes I moved the monitor cable to the new card, and no I did not go to safe mode to install the drivers because I wan't able to install any drivers for it and I have a 115 watt power supply.

115W power supply. I think you have that wrong. 115Volts is more likely.

Ok so when I plugged in the card I switched the cord to the new card and turned on the compter. Once the computer came on I put in the disk that came with the card and tried to install the drivers for it but the drivers said that there was no chardware for those drivers. So i pulled up device manager and looked at the card and it showed up as a gs500ff or something like that and the card i have is a geforce 8600.

"it showed up as a gs500ff or something like that"

We have to know exactly what it shows up as, not "something like that". GS500F is a motorcycle...lol
