S.M.A.R.T Hard disk 301 error

Specs: Windows 7
I have an HP mini 110 Laptop that has recently been giving me issues with S.M.A.R.T Hard disk 301 error and won't let me boot windows.
I contacted the HP support center, a week ago, and they are sending me a replacement for the Hard disk.
The error description suggest that I recover the information that is on the disk but I cannot access windows to do it.
My main question now is how can I retrieve the information that is on the damaged hard disk?
Is it at all possible?!?

Yes you can, you will need to do one of the following depending on your requirements:

1) Either perform a byte transfer of the old drive to the new. you can use something like R-Drive http://www.drive-image.com/ and create a drive image.

2) take the drive out of the laptop and slave it to another machine using a usb caddy or a Magic Bridge 2 device. copy your data.
