Specs: Windows XP, 146GB
Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me why my Computer and Internet are slow, especially while downloading a game. I checked my C Drive and it tells me I have - used: 90,185,125,888 bytes, 83.9 GB, free space: 66,794,340,352 bytes, 62 GB, capacity 156,979,466,240 bytes, 146 GB. Do I need more RAM or is above o.k.

Thank you so much in advance for your help. I have Windows XP.

Martina Tully,
Ireland.

146 GBs is not your RAM, it is your hard disk space of which you have plenty.

RAM (Random Access Memory) is something different altogether. You need at least 510 Mbs of RAM to be comfortable with Windows XP and 1GB if possible. The maximum RAM you could use with Windows XP is a little over 3GBs so 146 GBs is a silly number.

You can tell how much RAM you have by right clicking on My Computer.

And also RAM isn't the only determining factor. Having a slow connection, an older CPU, too-high of a graphics setting, too many services/programs running and a ton of other factors would have to be considered...

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your reply which has been most helpful. I did as you suggested and right clicked My Computer which gave me 3 GB of RAM. I was downloading a game and my computer was running slow but now it seems to be running a little faster and is fine. Thanks again.

Martina.

3GBs is fine. It was probably downloading the game slowly because that particular server that was hosting the game was slow at that particular time.
