Solved since update no audio device sound found on control panel

Specs: Windows XP, 3.2/ 1512 MB
since I updated windows and drivers I have no sound. Sound card is installed and its says its working properly
but if I go into control panel it mentions no audio device but under ahrdware my realtek HD is there and says working properly

tried anyway to reinstall driver (hope I got the correct one) but didnt work.

BTW the icon of audio disapeared on mytoolbar on desktop. Tried to regain it but doesnt work.

been working on it for 2 days ready to quit
old 3.2pentium 4 running on xp.

any help appreciated as the kids are killing me (no music!)

uninstall the driver, then install the correct one.

Is it an actual card? If not, you have onboard sound. If you're asking about a Gateway 702GE, are you 100% sure you have Realtek audio & not SoundMax?

Yes I have a realtek High definition sound card ( at least I think thats what I have) and yes the computer is a gateway 702 ge. It does mention thats what s intalled and working properly

huh...I went on your link. the driver is installed is newer then this one so it wont allow me to install it....the version I got earlier today was 5.10.0.7083 (as of nov.13)...should I delete it and try with the one on gateway which is Audio_Realtek_5.10.0.5136_XPx86x64

IT worked, looks like maybe the new update (driver) wasnt good. I did like you spointed out earlier went on gateway website and took the realtek driver there and it worked (I removed first the other driver)
