Solved Side panel on Compaq dk214a won't budge

February 1, 2014 at 17:31:59
Specs: Windows XP
I'm looking at a computer for someone and I can not get the side panel to budge one bit. I already looked at the manual to make sure I wasn't missing anything (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bpb13175.pdf page 119).

I have the one screw unscrewed and the panel is supposed to just slide off, but it won't. I tried prying it open with a screwdriver from the back, but it still won't move at all, the back panel just ends up bending.

I've never had this much trouable getting a side panel off. How in the world am I going to get this thing off? It's like it is welded shut or something. Any ideas?

Wll I got it. I kept prying it with the screwdriver in different spots and it finally poped off.

Those are really flimsy metal cases and bend easy. Possibly the last time it was removed something got bent and caused the cover to fit tighter. Before you put it back together you might check that nothing is bent, especially the tabs on the cover that fit in the case slots on the top and bottom.

You're welcome. That's happened to me several times too.
